As far as I’m concerned Peter Brookes, the political cartoonist of The Times, can do no wrong. In my humble opinion he leaves others plying this particular trade flailing in his wake. So what a delight to not only enjoy his works of wit, artistry and political commentary, but to have him explain the thinking behind some of his finest, recent cartoons. I make no apology for borrowing the material from The Times Magazine ‘A year in cartoons by Peter Brookes’, as the wider the audience for his genius the better. To quote the great man “If a cartoon is doing its job, it’s being critical. You get up people’s noses. As for how all the subjects view them, there’s that old joke: politicians aren’t offended when they’re in a cartoon; they’re offended when they’re not in a cartoon.
