We were delighted to be asked to contribute to the Fedrigoni 365 project. The book, which acts as a calendar for 2018, showcases 365 artworks from some of the best UK design agencies. Our brief was to interpret the date of the 19th March, in single-colour silver print, working to a canvas of 148mm by 148mm. Everyone in the studio worked up creative design ideas and after an internal vote the final three designs were selected.
First up was Mark Adamsons “19”.
Taking the lyrics from Paul Hardcastles’s song “19”.
Followed by Christopher’s “Comes in like a lion, out like a lamb.”
A highly relevant and superbly descriptive 17th century proverb: March starts in the fierce winter, but by the end of the month it has a spring in its step.
And finally, Tom’s “The first shoots of Spring”.
A subtle use of the germination of a plant, that formed the number 19.
All three designs were sent to Fedrigoni and we left them to decide which they would use.
Coming out on top was Christopher’s ingenious “Comes in like a lion, out like a lamb.” A worthy winner and it looks stunning in silver one-colour print on Sirio Ultra Black115gsm.
Overall the book is a fantastic journey through 2018. Each page features the inventiveness of some of the country’s most celebrated designers. All profits will be go directly to the Make-A-Wish charity.
